I've always been open about my non-belief, but recently it's come to my attention that more care needs be taken.
Yesterday my door was carved with a knife and my "Ask An Atheist Day" poster was cut up.
So to everyone, I urge you to take caution in this world. Stand firm about your beliefs, but be cautious about where and how you show that. The tide of the public is turning and atheists, nonbelievers, agnostics, and free thinkers are becoming more socially acceptable. However at the same time there is still the risk of violence from radical religious people so heed need be taken.
That's so incredibly fucked up. I have cats myself, and not only do I love them to death, but they're such intelligent beautiful creatures, how can someone harm a living creature like that...especially over something so petty? You know who it was? Did you file charges?
Yes...they are amazing creatures, and I love all my cats. It hurts us all alot when we found him. We don't know who it was, we just found the truck with broken windows, the bumper sticker all scratched out, and my cat covered in blood and dead on my front porch. Anyone can see the sticker from the road, so we never found out who did it. But it had to be someone who knew who the poor guy belonged to, as he had lost his ID tags a few weeks previously.
Fuck this, you have to fight back. They're trying to intimidate you, to scare you. That's essentially terrorism. That they're using such aggressive violent behavior just proves that they're incapable of rational thought and are actually threatened by your ideas. You should not allow such narrow minded fools censor you. This is an attempt at censorship make no mistake. If you allow them to bully you then you are allowing them to censor you. Yet you live in a country where freedom of speech and freedom of religion (or from religion) are law, and where threats of violence are illegal, there are things you can do to combat this. You have the law on your side, and you have intelligence and rationality on your side, use it. If the campus and campus security won't listen, go to the police and high authorities. Go to your local atheist groups. Stage a campus protest against this shit, call the person (or people) out on it. Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we have this today because he among others stood up to the violence and intolerance to make a difference where they could speak their minds and live their lives, they faced oppression in order to be free of living in fear. Atheists need to take a page from that book, because atheists in america today are a persecuted minority in an age where there should be no excuse for the behavior towards us. If we don't fight this bullshit then when will it end? When people suddenly become more rational despite their violence and hatred, when the minority and differing opinions are silenced, when people are killed for their beliefs? No, it ends when we push back, hold them accountable and stop their unacceptable behavior and show the world how childish they are.
Wait a minute, they allow weapons on your campus AND don't address hate crimes which could easily be seen as death threats? Is it just me, or are they asking for a body count?
There already is a growing body count from people who have been attacked by crazies with weapons on campus because the wackos out to hurt people are the only ones with weaponry. Most campus security is lucky if they are allowed a can of low end mace or pepper spray and the faculty and students are pretty much just moving targets.
I have a concealed carry permit (in my state you have to have background checks, mental health checks, and take a safety course to get said permit) but as firearms are not allowed on campus I have to lock my gun up and park off campus to go to class.
What use is a gun to defend yourself if they won't let it on campus? And they have yet to have taken edits to their rules due to safety violations why?
