Respect for Beliefs It is often remarked that people should respect what others believe as if the mere fact that they hold what is no more than an opinion albeit one based in divine magic but one given a label that attempts to demand unwarranted reverence deserves special treatments. This is nothing more than an attempt to prevent other people from stating their own opinions if these persons can claim that they are offended by that opinion due to their ‘beliefs’. This is asinine, a demand for special privilege and the direct opposite of freedom of speech that they themselves require. People should be respected as they have, they right to hold to whatever opinion or belief they choose but those opinions and beliefs do not warrant any special consideration and demanding such is little more than a form of mental authoritarianism designed to shield those indefensible beliefs from scrutiny and counterargument.
